==The Stop Censorship Banner==

Can we get this off of the wiki?  This place isn't for political advocacy.  --[[User:Bouchart|Bouchart]] 23:37, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

: No.  If this bill passes, I will be unable to host the wiki due to the legal issues involved. --[[User:Briess|Briess]] 00:44, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

:: The bills have been essentially struck down. There's a chance they'll return, but I think the banner doesn't need to be up anymore.--[[Special:Contributions/173.167.163.13|173.167.163.13]] 18:18, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

== New version ==

The main page recognises the new version, but not the new release date. [[Special:Contributions/188.95.42.176|188.95.42.176]] 14:08, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

:That's because the release date comes from a different template, which nobody updated. Given that this version is '''not''' save-compatible with 0.31.xx, it's very likely that a new namespace will be created to cover it, so it might be good to wait on updating existing pages. --[[User:Quietust|Quietust]] 14:11, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

::A few questions, then:

::*Is the DF2010 namespace going to be changed to df31 or similar, based on the version number instead of our placeholder title?

::*Will the new namespace be DF2012, df34, or something else?

::*{{tl|ArticleVersion}} and [[Dwarf Fortress Wiki:Current]] will need to be updated, yes?

::Yay new version! --[[User:Timrem|Timrem]] 20:27, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

:::On each of those questions, I'm not sure - I've contacted the admins, but I haven't yet gotten a response. --[[User:Quietust|Quietust]] 20:48, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

==Editing Guide==

I'd like to suggest that a new page with editing tips be created and linked to the main page. I think expanding on [[User_talk:Nyotor_Lizardhammers|this]] would be great. I especially would be interested in more information on how to do redirects, since I've done some incorrectly in the past (thanks for fixing them, Quietust!). I think it would be an excellent resource for those who haven't edited any other wikis before (like me) and for people who aren't familiar with the particular quirks of this wiki. Hopefully, this would reduce the number of red links we have the next time the namespace changes. --[[User:Cali|Cali]] 09:49, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

:I very much agree. I signed up recently to help out, and, as a new wiki person, I couldn't find a consolidated source of information about editing standards. The "Centralized discussion" page needs the aforementioned links. Especially the link to the [[http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Dwarf_Fortress_Wiki:Community_Portal#We_are_doing_this.21_Let_us_do_it_right.]]Alphabet Constitution. [[User:Darchitect|Darchitect]] 15:02, 27 February 2012 (UTC)Darchitect

::Yes, the "Alphabet Constitution" should be easier to find, and is included in the link I provided above. I'm glad I'm not the only who thinks this would be a useful idea. --[[User:Cali|Cali]] 00:38, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

== Gameplay Elements: Buildings vs. Workshops ==

Is there some reason why there are two separate pages for the same thing? And why does the Workshop page have this "Tier" categorization implemented? It doesn't seem to be necessary. I think the two should should be merged, and only contain a brief overview of what each workshop does, with a link to the workshop page.[[User:Darchitect|Darchitect]] 15:11, 27 February 2012 (UTC)Darchitect

:Yes. Workshops are buildings, but not all buildings are workshops.

:The tier system is an attempt at systematizing the workshops relative to their input and output. As it is unnecessary, confusing, and not directly representative of the game, it should be removed. No article should list workshops anyway, as we have <nowiki>{{workshops}}</nowiki> for that.

:I suggest that we make [[DF2012:Workshop]] a short general article that refers the user on to the specific workshop articles. --[[User:Nahno|Nahno]] 23:02, 28 February 2012 (UTC)-

:::Excellent suggestion. I second the motion. I'm going to edit the Buildings article a bit, as well, as it doesn't communicate its concept very well. --[[User:Darchitect|Darchitect]] 20:36, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

I was not logged in when I posted this but I thought it was relevant to the site. My Anti-virus software detected trojan viruses on this site (several of the individual pages) and was able to block them, but as a reference to site security and to inform the site admin of the problem, I created this section. If this section remains, please post any insecurity (virus) problems detected on the site or any individual Dwarf Fortress Wiki page, the date detected, and the specific virus type (if possible.) <small>&ndash; [[template:unsigned|unsigned]] comment by [[User:107.4.27.40|107.4.27.40]]</small>

:I've heard users of other wikis complain about such things from the ads on those sites. Is it possible the same sort of thing is what you've encountered here? I've never had any problems here, though I do have a firefox extension blocking ads for me. --[[User:Timrem|timrem]] 06:40, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

::Can't blame the site. It's hard to secure a website for your users when in order to stay up and running you have to allow an unindemnable third party to load arbitrary third party content including scripts. There needs to be laws and regulations making advertisers responsible for policing malicious code in their ads. Until then, adblock is as necessary as a firewall and antivirus.

Am I allowed to create a new page? I have a [[Beginner's Guide to Happiness]] in mind, setting out some of the key factors in keeping your Dwarves happy in the short and medium term.... [[User:The Land|The Land]] 22:30, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

:Newly-created users aren't allowed to create pages to deter spammers. Once you have completed approximately 20 edits you will be added to the "autoconfirmed" users group, with the permissions to create new pages. Until then, you might also want to check [[DF2012:Keeping your dwarves happy]]; but if you would prefer to make a new page focused at a beginner's level, post a message on [[DF:Page request]]. --[[User:Loci|Loci]] 00:08, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

== Image problem ==

It seems that {{tl|sg}} is no longer able to display thumbnails on the main page (or most other pages). I wasn't sure if anyone had noticed this yet or not.

This is the message I saw, which is also displayed for other images:

<pre style="white-space:pre-wrap">

Error creating thumbnail: convert: unable to open image `/var/www/dfwiki/images/9/9f/Palace_of_Seducing.PNG': @ error/blob.c/OpenBlob/2498.

convert: unable to open file `/var/www/dfwiki/images/9/9f/Palace_of_Seducing.PNG' @ error/png.c/ReadPNGImage/3072.

convert: missing an image filename `/var/www/dfwiki/images/thumb/9/9f/Palace_of_Seducing.PNG/140px-Palace_of_Seducing.PNG' @ error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/2970.

</pre>

--{{User:Lethosor/sig}} 19:56, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

<s>In addition, the logo frequently disappears, as do thumbnails on several other pages occasionally (including [[Brown recluse spider]]) --{{User:Lethosor/sig}} 20:03, 2 April 2013 (UTC) </s> It seems to be fixed, so it could have been a problem on my end.

:No, there definitely appears to be a problem with images. I first noticed missing thumbnails after I edited [[badger]] at 19:22. The error seems to be tied to ImageMagick being unable to open files on disk. Remote images (linked from wikicommons) appear to work more reliably. Unless the software was recently modified, my guess would be a hardware error on the server. --[[User:Loci|Loci]] 20:21, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

::Investigating.  We had a brief image server downtime about 2 hours ago, and I think it may be related to that. --[[User:Briess|Briess]] 20:35, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

:::Fixed.  All images should be functioning normally now. --[[User:Briess|Briess]] 20:40, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

== Glass Industry flowchart ==

:''This discussion has been moved to [[DF2012 Talk:Glass industry]]. Please reply there, not to this discussion.''

{{tc|#888|tag=div|

I apologize in advance for posting here my predicament, but this seemed like the only adequate place where I could post this without creating an account.

So, my problem with the Glass Industry flowchart (and, overall, the Glass Industry page) is that it is somewhat misleading regarding the production of vials. Vials require sand, not "pure" glass, in order to be produced. I noticed that my dwarves complained a lot about not being able to produce vials although having tonnes of green glass. For all that it's worth, there isn't a page describing how a vial is made. Typing vial in the searchbox redirects me to the Flask page, where it erroneously (at least from this point of view) states that it is produced from glass.

I'm not sure whether there are more items produced directly from sand, rather than producing the glass first.

I thank you for the attention given to this problem. <small>&ndash; [[template:unsigned|unsigned]] comment by [[User:217.129.96.108|217.129.96.108]]</small>
