Michael Strack (mixtrak) is a PhD student studying groundwater microbial molecular ecology in Sydney, Australia. In his (limited) spare time he is also a musician and writer. He began playing dwarf fortress in 2011 but quit after a few weeks because he was playing it obsessively. He fell off the wagon and started playing again just in time for DF2014, this time more moderately. He has written an overview of the game for those who haven't played it, and as of July 2014 is working on a video and text-based tutorial series.
