Michael Strack (mixtrak) is a PhD student studying groundwater microbial molecular ecology in Sydney, Australia. In his (limited) spare time he is also a musician and writer. He began playing dwarf fortress in 2011 but quit after a few weeks because he was playing it obsessively. He fell off the wagon and started playing again just in time for DF2014, this time more moderately. He has written [http://mixtrak.tumblr.com/post/91408847696/dwarf-fortress-or-how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and an overview of the game] for those who haven't played it, and as of July 2014 is working on a video and text-based tutorial series.
