Exactly - it's trivia, nothing to do with DF.  If we let in every bit of cool trivia, this site would be a disaster - so where do we draw the line, except at "none"?  I know trivia, I know mythology - maybe vast amounts of "nice trivia" everywhere would be an improvement - or maybe a link to the actual wiki article is better.  And keeps to the site guidelines.--Albedo 02:10, 18 August 2009 (UTC)<br />

A fine compromise - imo there is a significant (and important) diff between a dedicated passage on Greek mythology, and a side comment and link-reference to that origin.  Readya later.--Albedo 08:24, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

:That's also a nice comment to put in because the wiki link on the side bar doesn't take one to the Hydra page, but instead a giant list of different uses of the Hydra and a person wouldn't instantly know which one to check if they wanted more info on the Hydra.<small>&ndash; unsigned comment by Shardok</small>

:I'm not sure what the intent of this argument is. We make pages more interesting in a lot of places in this wiki by use of trivia, stories, D for Dwarf entries, inside jokes, etc. A little bit more information on Greek mythology on Hydras clarified the issue on beheading and Toady based his inspiration off of it so it mounts some explanation. Do you intend to correct every article in this wiki to exclude any trivia foreign to DF even if it isn't necessarily irrelevant? In any wise Toady will do the Hydra test nearing the end of this development cycle and this will no longer be a problem.--Richards 23:47, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Redirects
It would seem that part of this wiki's redirect policy isn't documented very well - redirects from the global namespace to "cv:" are intended to always point to the same page name to avoid problems if/when pages get split up (e.g. redirecting "cheese" to "cv:cheese maker" back before an actual article had been written for cheese). Multiple redirects on this wiki are not a problem and are actually encouraged. --Quietust 23:50, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

:Thanks Quiestust. I was actually just on your talk page to thank you for being a good sport about the mistakes I was making. Thank you. It's been some time since I last worked on the wiki and I was used to fixing double redirects and didn't understand the reason for the changes.

:I think I got it. Thanks again.

:May I ask what tag is to underline a piece of text? --Richards 00:02, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

The problem with the Bowman redirect was that Bowman was set to redirect to cv:Bowman instead of going to Crossbowman.  DF2012:Bowman had the same problem.  I fixed both.  The way it works is that you redirect X to Y, then Y automatically redirects to cv:Y, which takes you to (current namespace):Y.  So, if you want to redirect "Rich" to "DF2012:Richards", make the "Rich" page redirect to "Richards", and the "Richards" page redirect to "cv:Richards".  Like Quietust said, it's basically a double-redirect so that it automatically finds the correct namespace for the article.  Hope that helps!  -- <span style="color:#E05858;font-weight:bold;">Hi</span><span style="color:#C06060;font-weight:bold;">Ev</span> 22:04, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

:Thanks HiEv! Yes it does. I'll bother you if I have any other queries as I see you are a previous wiki administrator. Is there a page which generally states what tags does what, ex/ how to undeline/bold, what tags do what, and how to center text etc.?

::No problem.  Feel free to ask me any questions.  If you need help with wiki markup I recommend the MediaWiki's Markup spec page.  I'd recommend avoiding underline though, since that is often mistaken for a URL link.  If you need help with tables I recommend Wikipedia's Help:Table page and MediaWiki's Help:Tables page.  For centering text you'll probably have to use HTML markup, namely the "&lt;center&gt;centered text&lt;/center&gt;" markup, which does this:

<center>centered text</center>

::Between the wiki markup and HTML you can do all sorts of fancy stuff. Let me know if you have any problems getting any of it to work. Hope that helps!  -- <span style="color:#E05858;font-weight:bold;">Hi</span><span style="color:#C06060;font-weight:bold;">Ev</span> 22:32, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

The problem with the Foreign redirect was that you used "cv:foreign" instead of "cv:Foreign", so the lower-case "F" was the problem.  It's fixed now.  -- <span style="color:#E05858;font-weight:bold;">Hi</span><span style="color:#C06060;font-weight:bold;">Ev</span> 22:34, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
