(Making an example, and removing the old one. Sorry whoever made the first one, but dwarves don't tantrum from a failed artifact. They go insane. Please fix it and add it back.)

When a dwarf has been unhappy enough, he'll decide it has been enough for him and throw a tantrum.  Tantruming dwarves will cancel any job they may be doing at the moment and will start misbehaving, which includes starting fist fights (with the possibility of severely injuring other dwarves), toppling and destroying buildings or hurting pets. This is of course illegal, and they will be imprisoned or flogged for their behaviour. But even though they are punished, if their punishment is more harsh than usual their death (or the results of their misbehaviour) can cause another wave of tantrums, and your dwarves will begin a process known as a tantrum spiral which will almost certainly destroy your fotress.

As a result of not having cloth and aluminum, 2/5 of your dwarves have died, and almost 1/2 of your remaining dwarves can not work. Tantrum spirals are your dwarves way of saying that you need to try giving your dwarves what they want next time. However, if you give your dwarves a nice bedroom, dining hall, nice food and make sure they don't die to often, you can almost certainly avoid this source of incurable source of fun!

This article is about an older version of DF.

Template:Elven When a dwarf has been unhappy enough, he'll decide it has been enough for him and throw a tantrum.
