"The only way to stop their attacks is by running through a critical distance somewhere near a town/hamlet,"

I ran through one, didn't ward them off. Also, you can enter a lair(where whatever lives inside it is dead) to escape from them, such as you would a building(Just thought I'd point that out.)
Also brings me to the next point that sleeping inside of a cleared lair can keep your safe from bogeymen. --ANormalUsername 23:43, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Anyone else notice that bogeymen don't attack you in badlands or deserts etc. ? --Eepkeep 13:14, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
