From the journal of tehmarken, Freemason of Bloodline:Oceanside:

Granite[edit]

203. It is the beginning of our third year here. Andrew Ryan has appointed me to take charge this year, and I welcome the chance to prove myself to my fellow dwarves. My predecesor seemed apathetic to Ryan's grand plan, and I think Ryan was equally apathetic to hmxmoss' unambitious plans. My first order of business is to fill essentials my predecesor left undone. We have no sheriff, and no jail. How are we to ensure productivity and advancement if riff-raff are allowed to freely roam, sucking the potential of our great city? I have made Led Erushtaron our sheriff. A simple peasant, I'm hoping he sets a good example for our fellow citizens of Oceanside. I have also ordered the immediate construction of screw pumps. If our grand vision of a city under the waves is ever to come to fruition, now is the time to begin!

Addendum: Kogan Rovodosut claimed a craftsdwarfshop this month. He gathered up what materials we had available and constructed this: Oceanside granite1.png

I am personally proud of him, and hope all other dwarves see his hardwork as an inspiration.

Second Addendum: On the 18th of the month, shortly after an elven caravan arrived, a half dozen goblins ambushed one of our woodcutters. Such cowardly creatures they are. I sent our squad of speardwarves to take care of them, led by wavecutter. It was a simple task to dispatch the filthy goblins. Ryan preaches that this is another example of why we must hasten construction of our underwave city.

Slate[edit]

Our first test of the pump was a partial success. However, upon a smallscale test I realized it will only work once a largescale construction is begun. I am ordering our mechanics to prepare plenty of gears, corkscrews, and pipes for the project.

On the 11th some more migrants arrived. Like-minded dwarves eager to blaze a new life of grand achievements. With the influx of dwarves, our settlement has become large enough to foster a town guard. Led is excited to expand the order and civility of our town.

I also ordered the digging of several rooms for offices. I believe we need our overseers working efficiently in order for the rest of us to work efficiently. While digging out these offices our miners also came across more Olivine and Orthoclase.

Felsite[edit]

wavecutter and his men are keeping our mechanics and masons safe as they continue work on the pumping platform. I hope to have it operational soon. One of our carpenters, Thob Oburilral, has been churning out masterpiece pipe sections and corkscrews. He is a truely great example of what a hardworking dwarf can contribute to our cause.

When the last corners were being excavated for the offices on the 12th, Native Platinum was discovered. Our hardwork is truely granting us a bounty of materials.

Almost at the end of the month, I've decided it prudent to build workshop by the pumping platform. It seems more efficient to have the dwarves making the gears, pipes, and corkscrews near the project.

Hematite[edit]

I've decided to expand the wind power. If history records only one thing of my exploits, let it be known I was ambitious! I believe in Andrew Ryan's paradise under the waves, and I will see it built!

On the 12th a human caravan arrived. I know humans appreciate our hardwork, even though the choose to live in wretched colonies in open spaces. Ryan was attending a party when they arrived, I'm not surprised he would rather be inspiring our citizens than be rushing to greet the hairless apes. At least the brought exotic leathers and cheese. Delicious cheese.

A few days after the hairless apes arrived, another ambush of goblins attacked one of the stalwart wood burners. Sadly, Zulban Fikodroder did not survive the assault. But wavecutter and speardwarves arrived shortly for vengeance. I am beginning to suspect that humans and elves are being followed by these goblins. I am looking forward to our underwave city and security from these barbarous creatures.

Only one day later, another ambush! This time the gobbos got Olon Dumatdeleth, a simple fish dissector. I am ordering our dwarves to increase the pace of work on the pump platform, we must get away from these dangerous lands as quickly as possible.

Malachite[edit]

The pump platform is coming along nicely. I have a good feeling we can initiate pumping within a month. I have wavecutter and his men stationed near the platform to ensure nothing interferes.

Another wave a bright-eyed dwarves arrived this month. It is good to have more workers eager to help bring Ryan's dream of a utopia come to reality.

On the 11th, one of our hardnosed guards became a Champion. While we all applaud Tholtig Etursazir for his martial accomplishments, I worry he may begin working less...

Galena[edit]

The last pump is being put in place. Oceanside galena1.png

I was given the honor of pulling the lever myself. When the gears locked into place and the pumps began churning, I felt the power of hundreds of dwarfhours come to fruition. It is amazing, and it is only the first of many brilliant actions to be taken by the citizens of Oceanside! Oceanside galena2.png

Almost immediately following the beginning of the great draining, Stukos Lorbamrubal became utterly inspired, claiming a craftsdwarf shop. He crafted a Chalk idol depicting the rise of one of the greatest leaders known to dwarfkind: Ingish Greatmanors of the Rampart of Stops. Oceanside galena3.png

After our succesful testing of the pumping platform, I've ordered it extended back to the coastline. It is time we begun the first blocks of the creaty underwave city. Even our visionary leader Andrew Ryan is helping build the pumps.

Limestone[edit]

Our drink supplies seem ample, but the new waves of immigrants worried me with our food supplies. I commsioned our miners and farmers to expand or crop production.

Kikrost Zimkelmeng drowned when he was swept off the pumping platform by a wave. We mourn him, but our will is unwavering.

Late in the month, a caravan from the mountainhomes arrived. They also brought an ambush of goblins. Not even our dwarven brethren travel without those raving mongrels nipping their heels. I took this oppurtunity to unload our excess ale and wine.

Sandstone[edit]

The southern line of pumps has been completed, now only the north is left to be done. I am beginning to fear our dwarves are not working fast enough. I grow more worried about goblin ambushes. I will have to get down there and oversee it personally!

On the 24th, the last pump was laid. Unfortunately, my engineers miscalculated and our wind farm did not have enough power. The imbeciles! Now I must go oversee this project as well! I am looking forward to the day that my pump platform is actually operational. Oceanside sandstone1.png

Timber[edit]

My earlier efforts to revigorate our crop production has proven to be a success. Ale and wine production remain constant, but our stockpiles of raw plants grows. And with the proper motivation and ogranization, the engineers are getting the wind farm correctly expanded.

As this month comes to a close, I am making sure our glassmakers are preparing plenty of green glass for the underwave city. When I get this platform fully functional I want no more delays!

Moonstone[edit]

I haven't seen Ryan for quite some time. He no longer visits the platform, and I do not see him at parties. I am beginning to wonder if has been using his preachings of hard work only to use me and my fellow dwarves...

On the 8th, I personally nailed the last windmill together, causing the great platform to churn forth and pump out the water. Oceanside moonstone1.png I felt triumphant, but something bothered me. Ryan was no where to be found. In the past he had been there in front of every dwarf to proclaim our great work. Today, our workers are tired, exhausted, and have no Ryan there to congratulate them. I gave each of my dwarves and extra serving of ale and biscuits. It seems Ryan's interest in the working dwarf is not as strong as it once was...

My fellow stoneworkers and I have begun the tunnel into the ocean. It is going slowly, as the pumps can be finicky and sometimes gushes of water overwhelm us unexpectedly. Of course, Ryan is nowhere to be found...

On the 16th, Ryan mandated the metalsmiths make things of Platinum. PLATINUM! I am now truely doubting the character of Andrew Ryan. However, my fellow masons and I will continue with OUR work on the underwave city.

Another cowardly ambush by goblins! They got Udib the fisher sadly. wavecutter came to the scene too late, and was induced into a martial trance. He rightfully avenged his fallen comrade, but I will be glad when we are safely under the waves and away from this savage land.

As this month drew to a close, my fellow masons urged me to take a respite from the project. At this stage I believe I can trust them to continue the work properly, although I shall have to check on them periodically. For now, I have retired to the statue garden and begun work on a mural. Oceanside moonstone2.png

I hope Ryan appreciates my artistry.

Opal[edit]

The green glass walls have begun going up. The floor is being built out across the water. It is a beatufiul site to walk and be surrounded by the soothing waves. I'm surprised Ryan isn't here, I'm sure he's in his office going through /work orders/. Not that he'd do any of that work himself. Also, our glassmakers have informed me we are running low on charcoal. I've ordered more dwarves to the wood furnaces, I want to keep our construction on schedule this time.

Obsidian[edit]

Ryan crept out of his office and informed me this would be my last month as the head of the workforce. Whatever. Ryan has gone mad I think. He is still demanding platinum items, while my masons are braving ocean waves to get our underwave city built. My fellow masons have been doing a good job, and have kept insisting I continue my work engraving. I do find it soothing work, and the dwarves seem to enjoy my images.

The month is over, and I am to release command of my fellow workers. I believe we have accomplished much, despite the waning interest of our leader Andrew Ryan. I hope to continue my work on our glorious underwave city. I also hope my engravings will be visited even after we escape to the bliss of the ocean.

The best of luck to my successor, for they shall truely need a sharp mind and hard will.

Summary[edit]

Oceanside endof203.png

A lot of immigrants this year, but also a few fatalities. I nearly doubled our wealth, and ramped up our alcohol/plant production. The beginning of the underwave city was started, but it's hard work. Especially since it's my first time doing anything like this. The whole fortress guard spent their time wrestling themselves into champions. I streamlined a little of the job assignments, but there's always room for improvement.
