The Journal of Keep master Kevin

So here we are, the beginnings of our new life up and ready to go. The best idea we can come up with is to put me in charge... we’re screwed.

First journal entry. 26th Granite, 1062, Early Spring

This entry is late due to the huge mass of un-finished projects that were left on my lap by my predecessor. I don’t blame him though; the locals seem to find it hard to, well, do their jobs. I am pretty sure our stoneworker has been sleeping the whole time I have been on the job.

I wont let it get me down! I will finish the work and maybe even make so progress. First order is to prepare for the next traders I think.

The caravan arrived today, and so did the infestation of Raccoons. They scared away the Broker who decided now that he has work to do he needs to take a lunch, then the Raccoons chased him around the whole fortress until I activated our “honor guard” and killed them.

By this time the traders were done with us and left, silly elves who needs there harps and toys anyway.

    • Note, Inod is vengeful, he made rings and things out of the raccoons that chased him.

Kittens make good food.

Journal Entry 28th Slate, 1062, Mid-Spring

I have made a discovery, we have too much room in our fortress and too few dwarves. Future rulers should do something about this.

12th Felsite, 1062, Late Spring

Immigrants have arrived, we now have a population of 10! One of them is a much needed tanner, the others are farmers, which does not help much. I will put them to work in the quarry immediately.

25th Felsite, 1062, Late Spring

Spring has almost come to an end, and with that I am told by some random guy (who I don’t remember ever seeing arrive) that we can now support a Sheriff. I don’t think I care right now.

Additionally Ezum Nosimkib created a masterpiece, I have no idea where he put it. I think the Dwarves are hiding things from me...

Regardless I continue work on the new housing. All of our new citizens have bedrooms assigned to them. I put the stoneworkers to work prettying up the floors in the mayors quarters. I like smooth floors.

1st Hematite, 1062, Early Summer Progress at last! I have begun moving our operations inside, starting with the butcher, tanner, kitchen and sweet sweet still! Tired of the clutter I have begun “re-allocating” job skills, lets see if it helps.

I have decided on a project, I will create a new food store! I have no idea where...

ATTACK. We were besieged by a fleet of Groundhogs today, many dwarves fled in terror. I went to resolve the issue and found all the groundhogs dead, I wish I knew who the noble dwarf was so I could make him Sheriff.

12th Malachite, 1062, Mid-Summer More Immigrants and we are not running short on beds, we will see if they can build them fast enough to take care of the need. I think we still have enough room...

Also the new guys make the old guys look like hard working professionals.

I was happy to hear that the human traders were coming, I am more than happy to move some of our crap. So they arrive I move the good to the depot and they unload. Which they have been doing for perhaps a month. I just got word they are leaving soon and they are still not done unloading... I think I hate them. Killed some foxes, hired a Sheriff thought about building a barracks, changed my mind.

The human traders left before they finished unloading their goods. They got them back in the carts crazy fast I was right. I do hate them...

15th Galena, 1062, Late Summer Things have gotten dull around here. I hope fall is more interesting. I am going to have to expand the living quarters soon.

And then the rains came...

6th Limestone, 1062, Early Autumn We are up to 32 citizens we nee to expand our living quarters I hope to get the mining done on that before the end of my term.

7th Limestone, 1062, Early Autumn Momuz Masostun withdrew from society today and locked himself in his room.

8th Limestoen, 1062, Early Autumn Momuz Masostun just went a little crazy and claimed the Craftsdwarf shop... This had better be good

I would hate to have to build a jail for this guy...

Dwarven diplomat! Man its great to talk to someone who is worth the space they take up. He spoke of considering a trade agreement next year, I hope my successor is reading this. Priority items are Tanned hides Scepters Meat Prepared meals Shields/bucklers

22nd Limestone, 1062, Early Autumn While I was cooking dinner, all of our hunters we killed, I have no idea where they were or what killed them. Visions of the murderous Elephants of Boatmurder flash through my mind, we have not seen any yet. Lets hope it stays that way.

I checked in on Momuz Masostun, he is sketching pictures of glass and a forest. I think he has lost it.

Two of the fallen were found, I still don’t know what killed them or where, at least they will receive a proper burial.

28th Sandstone, 1062, Late Autumn Momuz has lost it, he ran from the crafting workshop screaming something about the forest in the glass threw off his clothing and locked him self in his room. I think he is dangerous so I have locked him in. Lets hope he calms down.

We found the last corpse of the fallen, I am having coffins crafted.

Took a long time to get the coffins built, the poor noble dwarves were long gone to dust before we could protect their remains, a sad day indeed.

15th Moonstone, 1062 Early Winter

GOBLINS!!!! 9 of them, I have activated our military. We are in big trouble. The activated military men immiately took to their posts, and then ran all the way to the SE corner of the map far farm from our fort and the danger... I hate them.

Update! 16 Goblins so screwed. I am going to activate the whole town lets hope this works.

Hmm Goblins are lazier then we are, I lost a few noble dwarves who attempted to take on the horde by them selves. That did not work. But the Goblins seem content in just sitting at the top of the map. Here’s hoping they stay there till spring.

11th Opal, 1062, Mid-Winter They didnt, in their first raid on the town we lost half our forces, don’t really have a military to speak of. I have told all of the dwarves to come inside and am going to hope the traps at the door have some luck with them.

9th Obsidian, 1062, Late Winter Still hole up in the Fortress, I have not looked outside but I suspect that the goblins are out there... waiting. We lost out bookkeeper. She was very good. I am sad. I hope we make it though the rest of this winter.

Spring has arrived, we live still but we are basically back where we started before I took on this job. I told you all we were screwed. I am outta here, I am going to take my chances with the Goblins.
