Freezing/thawing ice[edit]

Using the weather controls in the arena and spawning water of varying depths, it appears that water that freezes into walls (i.e. 4/7 and deeper) always thaws into 7/7 water, but anything less (3/7 or below) produces the original water level when thawed.

Gusty embarks[edit]

While they're supposedly present in assembly, has anybody managed to actually find a fortress mode embark with gusty wind? Other day-night cycles, such as rivers freezing in the night, are strictly limited to adventure mode, so this might be too.

Should there be a spoiler for evil weather?[edit]

anon 76.238.168.191 04:51, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

I would say no. Currently, minor spoilers are used for the caverns, night creatures, the existence of adamantine, and some miscellaneous, like on artifact mechanics, while massive spoilers (there is no in-between) are for the Clowns, their abode, and slab-guarding counterparts. No info relating to above-ground biomes is spoiler-marked, and as evil weather is of that category neither should it. --Voliol (talk) 07:50, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Weather system?[edit]

Few quick question about DF weather system and its affect on gameplay:

  1. Is there any info on how the weather is determined? Things like how the next weather type is determined, is it random or affected by other parameters (like biome, seasons, temperature). For example, is there a variation between summer and winter, and will there still be any difference if we turn off temperature in init?
  2. Is there any gameplay affect to clouds, fog, mist and snowstorm? For the later, the article says that 'Dwarves outside during a snowstorm can also freeze to death' however, it's unclear to me whether the snowstorm causes this affect or if the temperature is cold enough then you can freeze to death and a snowfall may occur.

For #2, I am pretty sure that cloud, fog, mist (and moon stars visibility) are adventure mode only features. --Jan (talk) 20:51, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

wet season[edit]

I haven't had the wet season announcement in this playthrough, is it biome specific? --Jan (talk) 14:06, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

My understanding is that it is climate specific, something like places that don't ever freeze but still get more than some amount of precipitation. (Of course, climate also determines biome so it should be limited to certain biomes.) But that page doesn't mention it. Also it seems the announcement doesn't mean it is raining, just that the season changed: "it just turned to the wet season, however it is not raining" from http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=52208.msg1871335#msg1871335 Ziusudra (talk) 03:37, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
