G'day[edit]
Welcome to the Dwarf Fortress Wiki, {{subst:PAGENAME}}! Here are some helpful links to get you started:
- If you're new to editing wikis, the Help page has some useful technical information.
- The Community portal has a collection of rules, many of them unique to this wiki. Rule G, Rule N, and Rule Z are three of the more important ones to keep in mind.
- The announcements (usually) contain current, important information—be sure to check them periodically.
- Special:RecentChanges shows all of the recent activity on the wiki. There isn't always a lot going on, but feel free to take a look and see what's happening around the wiki. (The "diff" link on the left shows what changed in an edit.)
- See DF:Versions for an explanation of namespaces (e.g. "Main") and redirects on this wiki.
- Help:Useful templates lists some commonly-used templates available on this wiki.
This message is a template - the original can be found at {{welcome user}}. Mate, just dive in! If you want to edit something that nobody will notice, try User:Tyrving/Sandbox. Click the link, create a new page and try things out. When you get them right, go back to the edit screen and copy/paste into the article where you want it. But hey, it's a wiki - if you get the markup wrong someone will tell you what you should have done differently. Use the History view to see how other ppl have done things - the good news is a lot of edits are small ones so it's easy to see how it works once you work out the history view. Good editing and good gaming.GarrieIrons 05:35, 13 February 2008 (EST)
- PS: Any page that starts with [[User:Tyrving/]] is a sub-page from your user account, like a document inside a folder. It is as close as you will get to owning something on a wiki. It is rare for anyone to care what gets put in user sub-pages.GarrieIrons 05:37, 13 February 2008 (EST)
Thanks for the tips. I think I'll play around for a while on the sandbox page and get things felt out a bit, then try a couple of little things with my user page. --Tyrving 23:27, 13 February 2008 (EST)
