v0.31 Talk:Mass pitting
Ok, so this doesnt work for me. 2 or 3 always end up escaping. i followed the directions to a T, and the creatures that escaped arent even thief types, what did i do wrong?
- nothing. you didnt do anything wrong. it's a pretty useless guide - about half of the monsters got out for me, so i stationed my military in the top room, and they fell through to the bottom one during combat. the bottom room was a drowning chamber, so they all died. could do with re-thinking this one, guys. could also do with several warnings on the page to the dangers - i didnt see any about normal creatures escaping and/or soldiers falling through the floor hatches in the article--DJ Devil 16:43, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
List of Creatures that can escape.[edit]
I know the article already has a warning, but its incomplete. '"Thief" type creatures, flyers, or large creatures like titans will escape using this system. If in doubt, build the cage manually or have sufficient military hanging around the top stockpile area.'
In addition to this some small wild animals (possibly all) seem to escape. I haven't done enough experimenting to say if it is all of them, or only certain ones. I can say that wild groundhogs and badgers escape, in addition to the above. If somebody can verify that it is all wild animals, or only certain ones, a mention in the article would be helpful. Otherwise mass pitting leads to mass job cancellations as the military doesn't automatically target wild animals, unless you specifically tell them to. They get grumpy about being present for every pitting though. (I miss the old military a bit). Pierre Monteux 03:27, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
What?[edit]
"In order to protect frame rate, spread of miasma if you are using this for melee training, gather any remaining loot that was not removed before pitting the creatures, or simply a desire for fortress cleanliness, you can make a bridge as part or all of one wall to the pit."
Read without taking a breath. What does it mean?
A different topic. Would an atom smasher be a nice addition to the bottom of the pit? Page doesn't mention it, I'm curios. -146.90.12.1 18:00, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- No idea what that means. It looks like two or three sentences combined somehow, although they appear to be different topics.
- And yes, an atom smasher would be a good idea, if you don't care about retrieving items from the pit (I tend to use magma, which serves the same purpose but keeps a few useful metals around). --Lethosor (talk) 18:53, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- "In order to protect frame rate, prevent the spread of miasma, gather any remaining loot, and dispose of the remains, you'll probably want some way to clean out the bottom of your pit. A drawbridge at the bottom is one safe way to accomplish this. Alternatively, you can install a dwarven atom smasher, flood the pit with magma, or simply designate the bottom as a refuse pile (causing items to slowly decay)." --Loci (talk) 19:35, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
