v0.34 Talk:Diplomat

From Dwarf Fortress Wiki

Does embarking around a forest retreat make the elven diplomat appear? When embarking with a forest retreat nearby, it shows up in the neighbour list. --Katie 17:08, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Elven diplomats do not exist in versions 0.31.01 and later - if you want one to show up, you must mod it into the raws yourself prior to worldgen (or use the DFHack "fixdiplomats" command, which inserts the proper data structures into an existing world). --Quietust 17:25, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
I've had diplomats from the elves in the 31. versions. Not very often, but atleast two or three times. Which made me think there might be some special condition. --Katie 15:37, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
They showed up through version 0.31.12 due to a bug which caused them to be mistaken for outpost liaisons; once that was fixed, they went away. --Quietust 14:45, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Inside voices not mandatory[edit]

Diplomats are capable of talking to their targets through walls. They must still be within a 2-tile radius of their conversation partner, however.

Goblin Diplomat[edit]

I've actually had a Gobiln Diplomat attend my fortress. He was a "vampire goblin law-giver". It was similar to a human diplomat. Pleasantries were exchanged, peace was not offered. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else. 99.255.28.216 11:27, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

He was a Human diplomat, in the sense of being the diplomat from a Human civilization. Being a goblin vampire is just a variant of the "demon impersonating a deity" case. --Quietust 14:45, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Second-Best[edit]

Discovered something interesting. The human diplomat would normally want to talk to the monarch, as he's the highest-ranking guy in the fortress. However, the king was locked in solitary, due to being a vampire. The diplomat met with the duchess instead, and appeared to have no problems with this. Not sure if this was due to the king being inaccessible, the king not having access to his office, or the king being a vampire.--Zzedar 18:43, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Long-suffering diplomats[edit]

I think it might be clearer if it were said that diplomats never run out of patience when waiting for a meeting - an outpost liaison can hang around for twenty years, with all clothes long rotted off, even though a trade agreement would be completely obsolete the moment it was finalised: the liaison sent, say, in the year 105 negotiates the accord for the year 106, even when it's already 130 when your leader gets around to it. unsigned comment by 91.65.220.161
