This just happened to me today, not sure what is going on. It arrived, chased some groundhogs, "left unhappy", destroyed my trade depot, and just started sitting in a hallway. --Kuroneko
- Your nearby Human civilization's Diplomat was a
forgotten beastdemon. They seem to be a bit buggy. --Quietust 15:43, 14 April 2010 (UTC)- That sentence is so going into my signature *laugh* --Birthright 19:49, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- I just got a "midnight blue fiend diplomat" from the Human civ. We'll see if he's any more competent than Kuroneko's tortoise. --Krenn 06:24, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe the civ has been taken by a demon, and appointed henchmen to all the nobles positions. Would be a great feature. --Rikaishi
Human Diplomat[edit]
Diplomat redirects here. A human diplomat (law-giver) sent to meet with my baroness was waylaid by goblin ambushers and the next summer the human civ sent a small siege (one squad) against me. It seems like the human diplomat exists solely to start a war by dying. --Passive Fist 14:55, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
- Diplomats now have their own article, since they behave distinctly different from liaisons - liaisons arrive with the caravan and make trade agreements, while diplomats arrive on their own and perform diplomatic functions. --Quietust 15:39, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Has this really changed?[edit]
"... Fell Tree jobs ...". In previous versions, the elven diplomat simply counted the wood in your stockpile. The article states that it counts all Fell Tree jobs. Has this changes, or is it an oversight? --Dree12 21:04, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- With the introduction of the caverns i imagine it counts above ground felled trees, since i have cut down ~200 or so trees in the caverns and the diplomat never mentioned it. --MLegion 18:37, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- It definitely counts underground trees - my lumber limit is at 44/132 for this year, and all I've done is clearcut my underground tree farm to yield its precious colorful logs. --Quietust 01:40, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Tree cutting agreements have always been based on the number of Fell Tree jobs, complete with the visible quota in the civ screen. In other words, it hasn't changed - you just misunderstood how it worked in the past. --Quietust 15:36, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

- Toady fixed the bug that was causing all caravans to come with a "dwarven liaison" (which just happened to behave like a Diplomat for non-Dwarves), and since Elves don't have any positions responsible for diplomacy, it means they won't send diplomats at all until Toady fixes it further. Diplomat Dies[edit]
Had a human diplomat die. Came to the wiki and found no information on repercussions. Would be nice to first off.. know the repercussions per race, then add them to the wiki. Anyone know? Pathaugen 09:06, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Criteria[edit]
Right now the article says that "certain criteria" must be fulfilled for diplomats to come; that is terribly vague. Can we pin this down? From my experience human diplomats come once you become a barony (8 years and max population when it happened).--98.82.121.178 03:40, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Elven Diplomat Dialogue[edit]
Does anyone have any text from the elven diplomats' visits? I have never managed to get them to show up, but I have in the past seen transcripts where they make short jokes and stuff. It would be nice to have those here or somewhere in the wiki for reference.
- First encounter, happy:
- What a pleasant surprise! Not a single tree here weeps from the abuses meted out with such ease by your people. Joy! The dwarves have turned a page, not that we would make paper. A travesty! Perhaps it is better said that the dwarves have turned over a new leaf, and the springtime for our two races has only just begun.
- First encounter, unhappy:
- You have disrespected the trees in this area, but this is what we have come to expect from your stunted kind. Further abuse cannot be tolerated. Let this be a warning to you.
- Normal visit, greeting:
- Greetings from the woodlands. We have much to discuss.
- Normal visit, quota proposal:
- We elves are partial in particular to the trees in the forests surrounding your lands. Although we are loathe to spare a single branch to your senseless slaughter, we are willing to ask that you cap your tree-fells at one hundred until we next meet. I will try to return next year as I am able.
- - We can grant this request. Let's discuss the specifics, though...
- - We cannot stop production just because of your quaint sensibilities.
- Normal visit, negotiations:
- We can part with at most <X> trees, butcher
- - We can abide by this. Let us work toward mutual co-existence.
- - Our needs exceed your allowances. Relax. They're only trees.
- Normal visit, farewell:
- Although we do not always see eye to eye (ha!), I bid you farewell. May you someday embrace nature as you embrace the rocks and mud.
