Wells are structures that serve as water sources for your dwarves. Dwarves will drink from wells if there is no alcohol to be found in your fortress, and your dwarves would rather drink from a well than from a river or pond.
Caution!
Wells are currently associated with a crash bug. Be sure to save frequently before and after building them. v0.27.169.33a
Construction
To build a well, press the b key, followed by the l key.
Wells require the following:
•Block
•Mechanisms
•Chain or Rope
•Open Space (A channel, filled with water, dug under the well.)
