A tiny brown bug known for its powerful poison.

The brown recluse spider is a hateable vermin that, on top of giving unhappy thoughts to dwarves who detest them, is very poisonous. Brown recluse spider bites cause immediate nausea, fever, and pain, and a short time later result in severe localized necrosis. They are also much faster than your average rat. Thankfully, vermin bites are so vanishingly rare - it takes a few hives of honey bees with thousands of bees a colony in close proximity to heavily trafficked areas before you begin to see bites - and these spiders are just too small to penetrate even basic clothes, so you won't be having dwarves spontaneously collapsing in the hallways of your fortress anytime soon.

Admired for its venomous bite.
