: Also, I updated the main article with the information from the above comment that a baron arrives with the monarch in at least some situations, since that much is known from the comment, but the wiki could use more detailed info about whether a baron/count/duke always arrive with the monarch. -[[User:2128|2128]] ([[User talk:2128|talk]]) 20:01, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

Trade Bug?

The caravan showed up, I started moving goods/broker, The liaison met with my manager before the caravan finished unloading, appointed the baron, and then the caravan was gone! In the future would it be best to lock away my manager until after the caravan leaves?

(user Disacorns, forgot to sign)

Caravans spontaneously leaving are completely unrelated to liaison activity. The merchants leave instantly when one of their units gets killed, either a merchant, a draft or hauling animal, or a wagon (guards don't count). Wagons commonly break when their wagon-pullers get afraid and run away, which can happen for a variety of reasons.--Larix (talk) 21:07, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
The caravan didn't leave, it vanished. Finished "peeking" on the conversation and it was gone. Checked the announcements, nothing.

What does a Baron do?

Newbie on my 2nd game, just got my first baron (someone inherited) so I've kitted out the office/etc, but I have no idea what benefit (if any) I get from having a baron? 31.51.9.181 17:12, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

If the baron dies

... you can still become the Mountainhome, and the king brings a baron with him (in this case the queen brought the king consort, who also became the baron). Remains to be seen whether you can go to count/duke. 2A02:A210:80:E80:AC7A:A993:68DA:A0CE 16:20, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

My baron in my current fortress was killed before the fortress was elevated to a county or duchy. For several years now the liaison has come and said "This land will be elevated to a [county or duchy, I don't remember]", and I even got a message later that said "[My Fortress] and the surrounding lands have been elevated to a [count/duchy] , but no new baron or duke is listed on my nobles screen. My first baron appointed a Champion, and I've been unable to change this appointment since the baron's death. If I look at the civilization screen for my fortress, it lists a dwarf that isn't part of my fortress as "baroness of [my fortress]/Merchant", so I guess one of the merchants is now the baroness of my fort. So the baroness of my fortress exists in the world, she just isn't a member of my fort and as such can't perform local baroness duties (like appointing a new Champion). I guess she somehow inherited the title from the previous baron. And that's why I can't appoint a new baron: since someone already holds the title even if they don't live in my fortress.
Also, I updated the main article with the information from the above comment that a baron arrives with the monarch in at least some situations, since that much is known from the comment, but the wiki could use more detailed info about whether a baron/count/duke always arrive with the monarch. -2128 (talk) 20:01, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
