Discipline is a skill relevant to military dwarves. A dwarf with high discipline is less likely to retreat in battle. Discipline dictates how likely a dwarf is to run as well whether or not a dwarf will panic when they witness death. This makes it very useful when many dwarves die in a fight; without it even a legendary sword dwarf will panic and run before he is even able to do anything to the enemies trying to kill you.
