A '''magma crab''' is a small creature that has the unique ability to spit molten globs of [[basalt]]. It does so at a very fast rate when at range, but resorts to wrestling in close quarters. Said basalt acts as a sort of very blunt arrow, and missed rounds will tellingly litter the ground. Not only do they have infinite ammo, but they absolutely ''spam'' their basalt shooting attack, tending to get a few dwarf or animal kills if there is unblocked magma. Yes, they will even attack a random flier above a volcano.

Due to living only in magma and having few organs, magma crabs are quite resilient, but they can be killed relatively easily by dropping constructed floors on them or by using enough marksdwarves. Overall, magma crabs are quite annoying if your dwarves are exposed to the magma, but they can be rendered harmless if you wall off any magma access.

Due to a bug, a magma crab does not shoot liquid basalt, but in fact shoots solid basalt, and that is enough to easily cripple kill an unarmored dwarf. Not only they have infinite ammo, but they absolutely ''spam'' their basalt shooting attack, tending to get a few dwarf or animal kills if you have an open volcano. Yes, they will even attack some random flier above the volcano.
* Magma crabs shoot solid basalt rather than liquid basalt, and that is enough to easily cripple or kill an unarmored dwarf.{{Bug|524}}

* The fallen basalt is placed in food stockpiles due to being a glob.{{Bug|5569}}

Overall, magma crabs are quite annoying if your dwarves are exposed to the volcano, but they can be killed relatively easily by dropping constructed floors on them. <s>Unlike fire men or fire imps however, magma crabs seem to never leave the safety of magma</s> They will come out of the magma. They can be rendered harmless if you wall your volcano.

One intriguing thing about is that dwarves tend to pick up the fallen basalt and put it into your food stockpile. (possibly due to it being a glob ?)
