40d Talk:Animal caretaker

From Dwarf Fortress Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Will military dwarfs use this skill on their war dogs? All the dwarfs I have with injured war dogs are champions, so I can't turn caretaker on. HeWhoIsPale 11:12, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

I want to stress, that animal caretakers level incredibly quickly. I had a dog wounded by a kobold, and assigned it to a full-time herbalist with caretaking activated. It took one or two seasons before the herbalist changed to an animal caretaker (somewhere on the "Great" level or so).Qwertyu 14:19, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Other responsibilities[edit]

Either this labor or Animal trainer is required in order for a dwarf to transfer a hostile creature to a cage (though, oddly, anyone can pit/pond a hostile); exactly which skill is response, I can't easily check at the moment. --Quietust 15:51, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

  • Looks like it's Animal Trainer. --Quietust 02:36, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Assigned by default[edit]

...treat any injured pet assigned to them...

This seems to include wardogs that were trained by a dwarf but not yet formally assigned as a pet to anyone. Since they hang around their Animal Trainer until formally assigned, it seems he is the one who takes care of them and gets the experience. Noticed it twice now.--Albedo 17:49, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
