40d Talk:Making a labyrinth
Alright, you can post suggestions and your ideas/labyrinths here. If they are good enough, ill add them into the main page, giving full credit to you and also linking to your other content on Magmawiki. --"Finally, youre here!" *Squash* 20:14, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Reformatting?[edit]
I read through this earlier and was considering cleaning it up a little bit, altering the diagrams to be a bit more readable and fixed-width, taking the 'troubleshooting' section and transposing it into paragraph form, some grammar, that sort of thing. I'm just giving you a heads up because you appear to want to operate the page yourself - if that's the case you may want to move the content of the page to your user page. --Retro 22:18, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- If you dont mind, can i keep it in its current format? The chat section down below allows readers to easily pin-point what they want to see. It also allows me to post conversations with my friend, the tutorial creator HydroEmperor, so others get to ask him questions. He says he doesnt like dealing with it himself, so he left the burden in my hands. Typical... --"Finally, youre here!" *Squash* 10:10, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- That's the thing - if a page is part of the main wiki, it's open for editing by all. If it's on your user page or an offshoot of it, it's your domain. And right now I'd prefer to reformat it a bit to suit the general style of the wiki more and clean it up. There's no problem with moving it to your user page, incidentally; many users including myself keep guides there. I'm just saying in its current state it needs some touching up, and if you don't want any other wiki users (ie. me) to touch it you should probably move it. It's your call, I'm just giving you a heads-up. --Retro 16:12, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, Admin here. I just edited the intro of the article a bit without reading this first - sorry, my bad. (You can "see" the original by hitting the page "history" tab and then comparing my edit with the last - but pls do not revert, just copy/paste the prev. if you want that.)
If you dont mind, can i keep it in its current format?
- In a word, no. Retro is 100% correct - if it's in the "main space", then it's public domain, community property. What you want to do is move/copy it to your (currently empty) User page, User:Forsamori, or (as Retro properly suggested) start a secondary user page, for example User:Forsamori/Making a labyrinth, which some users do for pet projects etc. Nothing wrong with leaving it in both locations, your private one and this public one - but if it's here, it needs links! Right now, it's an orphan, and next to useless. Readya later, either way.--Albedo 16:42, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- Feel free to touch it up, I learn by example. Ill note what changes you make and make sure to apply them to any other wikipages I make. --"Finally, youre here!" *Squash* 18:25, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
- If someone does that, great - if not, there are so many inaccuracies and misleading statements that this should just get deleted as inappropriate. If an article is going to exist, it needs to fit the wiki style, and if no one is willing to edit it then it should cease existing as is. Just so you know. Also, moving this to 40d namespace.--Albedo 20:44, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'll be happy to when I have free time (not for a day or two, I'd guess). We'll see how well it fits wiki/DF quality criteria then, I suppose. --Retro 22:09, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

- It doesn't need much, but it needs "something" - right now there's a laundry list of things that need improving, and while not all of them need to be fixed, at least something needs to be. Mainly the diagram, chatty voice and terms/accuracy, plus links (which is not a requisite, but a practical concern.) To be honest, I only put the "delete" template there b/c I couldn't find the "needs improving" template. <shrugs> --Albedo 22:38, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
- I gave this a shot, and found while looking over the trap design, defense design, defense guide, and stupid dwarf trick pages that the idea of a labyrinth is loosely incorporated into these pages somewhere or other. The design in this page is a labyrinth design, but it's a rather specific one that would be more appropriate to move to an offshoot of Forsamori's user page ((potentially User:Forsamori/Making a labyrinth <-- here as previously suggested)) and then link to it with "here is an example labyrinth design" or something similar on the aforementioned relevant pages. As-is 'labyrinths' don't really need their own page; a paragraph or so in each of the mentioned pages seems sufficient. I think I'm going to go and add a 'see also' thing at the bottom, but moving this and then inserting linked references to it seems the most appropriate action. I'm gonna hold off on attaching those pages to this one until a possible move is done for this page, but it's got a See Also bit now. --Retro 02:29, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'll touch it up tonight. Ill open tabbed browsing and find a well formatted article and try to copy its lay-out as clearly as possible. As youre probably aware, Im new to Magma-wiki, and the whole wiki concept as a whole. Ill see what i can do, as i really dont want this deleted -- Forsamori
- Check out Your first fortress, mega construction and obsidian farming for some good examples of a broad-topic, multi-faceted discussion that avoids being either too personal (I do this, I do that"), too specific re one layout, or assuming the reader knows every term used.--Albedo 00:55, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- Will do. Thanks --forsamori

Don't stress it - you're not under the gun, I just don't want to see this page remain and languish in its present form. Some of the "empty" redirects are my fault - it seems some people have been busy (but not busy enough) since I tossed those links up there and checked them. They should all lead somewhere now, but any older article should be found under 40d:________, or via the link in the purplish banner on the CurrentVersion (cv:____) page. If you're having trouble, type in a Search term (or a number of words) and then hit "Search" instead of "Go" - that will give you all articles (not User pages) that include those words. signed, --Albedo 22:00, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

I tried to make the page read a little better. It still needs more information.--*Flexes* 19:54, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
DF2010:Making a labyrinth[edit]
I'm wondering, since this article is here, prehaps a similar one could be made for the new version? Of course, it would have better formatting than this one, but it seems not much has changed in this subject. Any opinions? --Dree12 02:11, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
