A question: What do the (xxx) vs. xxx mean in this list? --80.143.215.236 20:17, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

The captured creatures page indicates that I can disarm captured goblins by locating narrow gear that's being worn on the stocks page and marking it for dumping. How do I determine what's being worn, though? None of the color coding or bracketing symbols seem to indicate this. Bryan Derksen 01:05, 18 May 2008 (EDT)

A second on this question. Is this possible? To see what's currently in use by the dwarves? --Zombiejustice 18:48, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
Use the "go to object" command or whatever that one that goes to the object. If it goes to a cage with a goblin in it, you know you've got the right equipment. However, if you process your equipment quickly, all narrow stuff should apply. --Savok 08:45, 16 June 2008 (EDT)
Hm. I was hoping there was an easier way. My furnace operators can melt down (narrow iron chain mail) only so fast. I guess I'll stick to throwing them in the execution chamber as practice for my marksdwarves. --Zombiejustice 09:07, 16 June 2008 (EDT)

I tried to use the stocks menu to control the type of stone my mason uses, by forbidding everything except a flux. Somehow that seems to lock up the mason into No Job, even though there's plenty of that type of stone lying all over the place and what's more, nothing I do can ever get that mason to do anything ever again except eat, sleep, and drink. Did you remember to set your flux stone to be non-economic? They won't use if it they think it's still reserved for steel production. --Bilkinson 09:04, 8 September 2008 (EDT)
More likely the workshop is built out of one of the forbidden stonetypes - this forbids the workshop itself! unforbid it manually. --Höhlenschreck 21:14, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

More info about the two columns of numbers, please.[edit]

The article says "listed first as the total number available, and then as the total number in use." I don't think this is right. My barrels are listed as 193 in white and 3 in red. I'm definitely using more than 3 barrels. In this case I think it means I have 3 barrels *unused*.

Could someone please clarify this?

The numbers and colours do indeed mean quite a few different things - the first, grey, number is basically items normally, freely available to you (though e.g. including used (that is, filled) bins and barrels, worn and owned clothes (you can't control at all) and the occasional bolt in a river or on top of a tree you can't actually reach).

The second, in red, is the sum of

  • items not owned by you (caravan, enemies)
  • items used in buildings, traps etc. (including stuff set for trade in the depot)
  • items forbidden
  • more?

in the detailed view they split in

  • red
  • cyan
  • violet
  • ...
  • grey for imported or otherwise not selfmade stuff
  • brown for items created by you

So, for your barrels, they are most likely part of a dyers workshop or forbidden - just [z]oom to them to check

Great info, thank you. I will try to incorporate it into the page. Oh, I see it's been done. Looks great, thanks!
