DF2014 Talk:Forgotten beast

I question the article's statements about durability of materials. I've got an FB made of grime and filth, trapped behind some fortifications. I've been pumping bolts into it for about a month, and it hasn't even stopped flying yet.

I'm not expertly versed in combat mechanics, but I understand that weapons' contact area and mass play significantly into the calculations. Bolts have a small contact area and low mass, though high velocity; this makes them superior for puncturing (weaker) armor and tissues in order to deal significant damage to internal organs. In the case of your FB, however, there may be no internal organs to destroy, and so the bolts may effectively pass through their target without hurting anything. Weapons with larger contact areas should be more effective at pulping or severing grime-based body parts, so a few mace- or axedwarves may be required to finish the FB off. Alternately, try catapults or ballistae. Or just leave things as they are and revel in the creation of your elite marksdrawf training arena. --Rriegs (talk) 21:16, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
