-- as of current (steam) version, untamed giant cave spiders will also web "agitated" wild animals. Tested by teleporting agitated animals next to them. https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/User:Dr.hieronymous.alloy

-- on current steam version, tamed spiders appear to web enemies if they lose the ability to stand. (New user, can't upload screenshots?) Bewarethewarp (talk) 16:26, 29 August 2026 (UTC)

--- On Steam Version 53.16, a collection of tame giant cave spiders repeatedly attempted to web a Forgotten Beast that engaged them, resulting in it being successfully cage trapped (at the cost of multiple spiders). This was despite them having melee access to it. However, attempts to replicate this by releasing troglodytes etc. into other enclosures produced no webbing attempts. There may be a consideration for how dangerous a spider thinks an enemy is to warrant trying to web it.

Said Forgotten Beast was blind, deadly spittle, and made of red zircon (extremely resistant to physical damage thus). This IS a modded file, but I'm unaware of any aspect of the installed mods that would modify giant cave spider behavior. I've taken a screenshot of the aftermath but am still a new user, so uploading it might have to come later. --InchonDM (talk) 18:41, 8 September 2026 (UTC)

Whether the spiders are willing to use webs depends on the level of conflict - specifically it has to be Lethal or No Quarter which the forgotten beast (and other major threats like undead) engage in. Otherwise wild predators generally engage in Non-lethal which doesn't use webs. DarklingArcher (talk) 08:38, 9 September 2026 (UTC)
