The Sanctum of Peace[edit]

Writer's note[edit]

I'm new at writing, I hope I did it right. I also got lazy at the end of the story. I'll try to update it as soon as some events occur, right now it's just a sum of what happens in the fortress, without conversations.

At first[edit]

He walked up the wagon and sat down, gazing at the horizon. He looked at the hard laborers unpacking all of the supplies, together with their personal belongings.

It sure was tedious, this job, but it payed well and your life quality was to be ensured by the king. At least he got to do what he always had tried to do when he was a kid: Provide structure and support, leading people to their success. Yes yes, it was really a good life.

A dwarf came to me and did the usual greetings all dwarves did to their nobles, a simple raise of your and above your head, showing that you acknowledged he was on a higher level in command. He then introduced himself. His name was Tekkud Rigòthkeng, a bit of a plain name for dwarves, yet he was very respectful in his way of speech towards me. He has potential, that’s one thing. Reporting to me that the unloading was finished and that nothing was lost underway, no, we even had some bituminous coal extra, together with two steel bars we didn’t ask to give with us. Strangely enough I can’t remember them being loaded on he wagon either. Perhaps they got stolen? “I think it’s not of a big deal that we have these bars and coal extra, it only helps us expanding faster and getting all the material ready to carve out the first floor of the fortress.” Tekkud told me. He was right, we were short on steel in this region, with the upcoming migrants it might be smart to overproduce some tools just in case. “Make sure the steel bars are used for something useful.” I told him. “Here’s the plan to the fortresses layout, I will only show you the entrance floor and the first floor for now, be as quick as possible digging this out, we need to establish quickly.” Tekkud grasped the papers out of my hands, I was surprised at first, but it seems he was anxious to see how it would work out. “This room here, what’s it’s purpose?” as he looked at me. “It’s a spare, we can do anything we want with it later, just make sure it gets dug out.”

The Sanctum of Peace – Ottem Bisól[edit]

You might be confused by the name, I’ll explain this later, let me first introduce myself. I’m Arh’tas Erukile, my job is to lead groups of dwarves to new exciting locations, for them to start outposts, fortresses and eventually towns and citadels. This helps us greatly to expand our area of influence. Tales had been told of the previous outpost, what was the name again… Anyway, great tales were told about it’s success. That was my work, yes, a fine piece that shows what I can do. You may think I’m a rich dwarf, but truth tells otherwise. I prefer to give my money away to those who need it and spend a little of it in the extra supplies for the outposts. The reason is that they have such a higher chance to fare well, they can survive almost a year and a half, up to next year’s autumn.

I walked around the area, showed everyone what I was planning to create this time. Here, let me show you too.

…and that’s the nobles quarter, where you’ll be living.

So anyway, I think it’s time for us to start working again, I’ll be guiding the dwarves around, you live your life. I’ll speak to you again when it gets autumn and it’s time for me to leave.

And so, the dwarves start to establish themselves, first goal is an outpos, with a tower.

Autumn has reached the outpost, it’s starting to get cold, don’t you think? I’m experimenting with a floodgate reservoir right now, I hope it works fine, I also made itself adjust to the amount of water in it, as soon as the water is 0 it will fill itself 3 times as fast as normal… Now let’s sum up what happened in the fortress. • Bomrek Roderedëm has been killed in a raid of mandrills, the raid has been fended off, but Bomrek got taken by surprise, in honour of his smithing services his house is now sacred, filled up with stones, together with his valuables he got walled in for eternity. May you rest in peace from all the nobledrowning and catburning chaos. • A large underground channel from the brook to the houses has been made, it also has the reservoir connected to it. • A successful trade was made with the traders from the capital, they are leaving soon so I have to explain you everything quickly, I ordered some armor for the upcoming group of dwarves that want to join you, just in case. • A few kobolds have been sighted and are stealing around, make sure you put some military on patrol, that is, after you’ve trained them a bit.

Well, I guess that’s it for me, the outpost will be uncontrolled until a dwarf arrives that prefers to do the administrative work. Until then: good luck.

I stepped onto the wagon as they departed and waved one final goodbye to you, will we ever meet again..?

Leaderless?[edit]

The Sanctum of Peace was leaderless now, but not for long, as soon after the caravan left the outskirts of our location, a group of immigrants arrived. The peasant Tulon Thoburol decided to take a try at administrating the outpost, his nobel quarters and office has been prepared. We also have two haulers, a clothesmaker, a leatherworker and hunter, two soldiers that have their equipment already and reserve. Unfortunately a tiger ambushed our leatherworker, so that leaves us at twelve dwarves remaining: Tough luck.

Tulon Thoburol’s reign.[edit]

An administrator is practically the leader of the fortress, even if it doesn’t look like it yet. We still need to figure how to respect the shortlived leatherworker… Poor soul. “In memoria of Ilral Betandodók, Leatherworker and hunter, who’s shortlived life was not expected.” We tried to take revenge on the tiger, but it ran away out of our reach. Unfortunate, very unfortunate.
