I ran a 2D fortress for quite a while, and every so often I'd get dwarves spamming Clean cancellations due to being unable to path to the mess. At one point, I managed to spy several globs of obsidian near the magma flow, and a search through the forums suggests that magma men are instantly melting. Indeed, the raws in 40d mention this problem and deliberately skip setting the magma man's material and use FIXED_TEMP instead of HOMEOTHERM, and by 23a the temperature system was still quite new. I've since patched my raws to include this fix (as well as adding all of the other creatures from 40d to 23a), so time will tell whether they actually start surviving long enough to do some damage. --Quietust 15:17, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
