Hives fall under the 'Tools' section on the 'Bring items to depot' screen, along with (small) jugs and nest boxes. There is obviously some overlap here with crafts and with furniture. Pots (large jugs), for instance, can be used as a storage container like barrels, both for drink and for food, while jugs are required, it seems, for harvesting royal jelly from a hive (something like a bag is needed to transfer a quarry bush into quarry bush leaves. Is it worth creating a Tools page, linking to these separate tools? Work is needed on the chests/containers/boxes/bins/barrels page, I think, to clarify jugs/pots, while it's also worth noting that tools are stored as crafts. --[[User:Zooeyglass|zooeyglass]] 09:30, 31 March 2011 (UTC) | Hives fall under the 'Tools' section on the 'Bring items to depot' screen, along with (small) jugs and nest boxes. Magical transformation of bumblebees[edit]
Looking through the raws, I noticed that bumblebees lack a pet value. I wonder if that might be the cause of the "magical transformation" of bumblebees into honey bees when they're collected into an artificial hive. Gentgeen 00:01, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- Prior to version 0.31.20, honey bees didn't have a petvalue either - Toady only added it to honey bees because bumblebees aren't even permitted to be placed in artificial hives (since they lack [ARTIFICIAL_HIVEABLE]). --Quietust 00:52, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
- Does anyone have actual proof that this transformation happens? I know I've never seen it - any hives my beekeepers are going for are beehives, and I'm pretty sure I've seen them idle with empty artificial hives and bumblebee hives around.

Automatic destruction of hive[edit]
I'm not experiencing that "the hive will be deconstructed and returned to a stockpile". Being unfamiliar with wikis and new-ish to DF, I'm reluctant to simply change the article. Can anyone confirm that hives stay constructed and merely need to be recolonized? QuantumTroll 12:16, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- My bees stay alive inside their hives and nothing is destroyed when the honey is harvested. The only change is that it is not ready to be split anymore --Katie 01:10, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- I've kept a close eye on the hives that are being collected from, and it does indeed kill all the bees in it, sometimes leaving behind honey bee remains at the site. Since hives are automatically refilled when they can be, though, it did in fact seem like they were staying populated even after collection. --CKwolek, 8:47, 6 December 2011
Tools[edit]
--zooeyglass 09:30, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
