Hey guys, This article says that this is a category, but for a single point on embark I can buy 'novice metalsmith' in the skills.  (It's between armor smith and furnace operator).  I checked, wondering if this wasn't a text-bug, but all of the other skills under Metalsmithing are also listed!

I'm taking a level in it to see what the effect is, will report back but this needed to be brought up, either for this article or for the bug list.--[[User:Qoonpooka|Qoonpooka]] 01:25, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

n/m, I found it.  "Blacksmithing" is listed as "Metalsmithing" on the embark menu, it is a textbug. --[[User:Qoonpooka|Qoonpooka]] 01:27, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

This page is a duplicate of metalsmith's forge. Since the category box list metalsmith's forge, I'd suggest that this page is either deleted or integrated with the category box page. --Eagle of Fire 17:57, 18 November 2007 (EST)

This page has much more info than Metalsmith's forge. Suggested action: Move, deleting old page --GreyMario 21:02, 18 November 2007 (EST)
Please see Metalsmith's forge talk page for more information on a merger between the two pages. Let's use the other talk page instead of this one to discuss this. FFLaguna 18:42, 2 December 2007 (EST)

Legendary Metalsmith[edit]

I had a dwarf craft an artifact iron bed and now he is a "Legendary Metalsmith".

Does this mean he has a legendary skill level in all metalsmith-related jobs, or is it limited to, say, metalcrafting?

--Pizzapie 12:59, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

Blacksmithing, I would guess, actually. That is to say, making furniture at the forge. Thrones, doors, tables, et cetera. --Zombiejustice 15:23, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

Yes, from the blacksmithing page it makes sense.

Not the most useful skill to attain legendary status in. Thanks for the help. --Pizzapie 18:37, 22 June 2008 (EDT)

Training Metalsmith[edit]

What is the best way to train metalsmith? I would think it would be buckets, because they only take 1 bar. --Zchris13 22:06, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

PS. This raises the question of why I am doing this. Terribly good question. Reevaluating this.

Masterfully crafted steel anvils. --Zchris13 23:59, 16 April 2009 (UTC) They weigh a ton, but they are worth a fortune.

THAT TRAINS FURNACE OPERATOR. Not metalsmith. I'm reverting your edit.--Zchris13 00:21, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Metal bridges. They are totally recyclable. They train Building designer as a bonus. (This method is perhaps a bit slow). --Aykavil 20:10, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
It might be strange, but I can verify Aykavil's comment. Now to find a way to train armor/weaponsmiths without wasting large amounts of metal! --Kwieland 15:46, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Even better: metal constructions. That way you don't have to bother with the first, architecture-using stage of construction (unless you consider that an advantage). On the other hand, this may be too slow; I don't think I've ever seen anyone go past dabbling by building metal constructions. Plus armorers and weaponsmiths will join in. --nil
For reference, constructing walls does not grant any experience at all, so this doesn't work. --Quietust 02:34, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Migrants[edit]

Any time my migrants have arrived with only Metalsmith skill they are listed as Blacksmith.

To be known professionally as a Metalsmith they have to have (I think) Metal crafter skill.

Anyone confirm?
