Reader is a skill used in Adventurer mode for reading books, signs, and other writing. The skill can be assigned points during character creation. Without the right skill level, an adventurer will be able to tell there is writing on an object, but will get no more information than "...you can not read." Reading is required in order to become a Necromancer. Novice is all that is required.
Reading signs or books does not appear to practice the skill.
