This error will occur if a military dwarf en route to pick up a piece of equipment has their equipment options are changed. For example, if the dwarf is picking up a warhammer and his weapon preference is changed to crossbow.
It can also happen when a civilian dwarf is picking up an axe or pick, and the woodcutting or mining labour is switched off.
