I've done an experiment and it seems that Sheriff or Captain of the guard is another prerequisite to obtain a baron: Grow a fortress to 250 inhabitants without law enforcement and the diplomat will not suggest a barony. However as soon as there is a guard... --MathFox 00:31, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

I haven't appointed a Sheriff or Captain of the guard and was asked if I wanted a barron, also I am only just over 200!unsigned comment by 66.168.42.24
Agreed. Due to the failings of dwarven justice I never appoint those positions, and I haven't noticed any difficulty becoming a barony. It may presumably be included as an optional "requirement", but I have removed the statement from the article until it can be clarified. --Loci (talk) 19:15, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
Fine with me. I still wonder what causes my general lack of nobility... --MathFox (talk) 20:07, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
I've also received a baron without appointing these positions. I don't remember what my exact population was, but I'm pretty sure it was under 200. --Lethosor (talk) 21:29, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
Me too. Diplomat made an offer for barony, when my population was somewhere between 80 and 100. By the way, is it true that offer can be permanently refused? I told him that we want to remain our distance from homeland, but he just kept arriving every year after that with same offer. DragDen (talk) 10:22, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
