40d:Mud
Indoor mud is created by filling a floor tile with water, then letting the water evaporate. Outdoor mud is created by covering any soil tile with water. Creating mud is essential to providing irrigation for subterranean crops, as well as any crops indoors. The most common sources for mud are the results of irrigation, farming, and draining water sources.
If an underground river or lake has been revealed, muddy tiles that are Subterranean will spontaneously grow tower-cap trees and shrubs. Like trees and shrubs that grow on grass, these can be harvested and will yield wood and subterranean crops.
Building a dirt road over muddy soil will remove the mud quite quickly. Placing a building such as a statue on a muddy tile and then deconstructing it will also clear away any mud, even if the tile was smoothed and/or engraved stone. Building a construction or a paved road will also remove mud, but has the disadvantage of destroying engravings and unsmoothing the floor as well as changing any mineral floors to the current layer stone.v0.28.181.40d
Building a construction, such as a dirt road, over muddy tiles will remove the mud. Smoothing a stone floor will also remove the mud, provided it has not already been smoothed. Placing a building, such as a statue or bed, on a muddy floor also appears to remove the mud, having the added advantage of being able to remove mud from smoothed or engraved floors.
In adventurer mode, mud objects which you can pick up from muddy tiles are edible.v0.27.176.38c
