The blacksmith makes furniture, buckets, bins, blocks, cages and anvils at a Metalsmith's forge. Although chains are listed under the "furniture" menu, chains are made by metal crafters.
Confusingly, the skill a blacksmith uses is called "Metalsmith" when viewing the list of experienced skills a dwarf possesses, but "Blacksmithing" on the list of labours.
Forging a bucket uses one metal bar. Most furniture needs two; anvils, cages, bins, barrels, and pipe sections need three.
