The metalsmithing labor enables a dwarf to work at a forge to produce goods out of metal.

This single labor encompasses four different skills - making weapons, making armor, making furniture, and making trade goods. Thus, workshop profiles should be utilized in order to restrict your metalsmiths to use only their highest skills.
