Revision as of 02:02, 5 November 2007

Stone is the material that is left behind after Mining. Some mineable layers, however, do not leave behind stone. These fall into the Soil category.
Stone is divided into three key categories:

  1. Metal ore: stone that produces metal bars when smelting.
  2. Economic stone: coal and stone that is used as a flux or has other desirable features.
  3. Other stone: stone that is used for structures and has no special features other than color.

Metal ores

Stone name Found in Found how Ore
Aluminum All Igneous Extrusive Small clusters Aluminum
Bismuthinite Granite Small clusters Bismuth
Copper nuggets All Igneous Extrusive, Sandstone Veins Copper
Malachite Limestone, Marble Veins Copper
Tetrahedrite All Stone Veins Copper, Silver
Gold All Igneous All Alluvial Veins Gold
Hematite All Sedimentary, All Igneous Extrusive Veins Iron
Limonite All Sedimentary Veins Iron
Magnetite All Sedimentary Large clusters Iron
Galena All Igneous Extrusive, All Metamorphic, Granite, Limestone Veins Lead, Silver
Garnierite Gabbro Veins Nickel
Platinum nuggets All Alluvial, Olivine, Magnetite, Chromite Small clusters Platinum
Horn_Silver Silver Small clusters Silver
Silver nuggets Granite, Gneiss Veins Silver
Cassiterite All Alluvial, Granite Veins Tin
Sphalerite All Metamorphic Veins Zinc

Economic stones

Economic stone is a designation for stones that have special uses as ores, fuel, or flux or other uses as far as making special items is concerned. You can use the z : Stone menu to un-restrict them.

The Stone menu will also show what each stone can be used for--very useful for figuring out what you need to mine more of to make that obscure metal your noble is whining about.
