Stone or rock is a naturally occuring solid aggregate of minerals. It sometimes leaves behind boulders after being mined (the drop rate is dependant on the skill of the miner). Other types of minable tiles include soil and sand.

Stone is divided into three key categories:

  • Metal ore: stone that produces metal bars when smelted
  • Economic stone: coal and stone that is used as a flux, or has other desirable features
  • Other stone: stone that is only used for items and structures and has no special features other than color

Metal ore

Metal ores with two possible metals always create the first metal, but have a chance of creating the second metal as well.

Sphalerite All Metamorphic Veins Zinc 2

Economic stone

Economic stones have special uses as fuel or flux, or other uses like making special items. You can use the z : Stone menu to restrict or un-restrict their use in items and buildings.

The Stone menu will also show what each stone can be used for--very useful for figuring out what you need to mine to make that obscure metal your noble is whining about.
