I wasn't sure where else to put this...

Will a building destroying creature damage constructed walls/stairs/ramps/etc?
Or will a simple one width wall stop any damage to your fort?

I did some testing with a bronze colossus -- it looks like building-destroyers ignore walls and fortifications. They are also blocked by a one-tile channel. Anydwarf 12:06, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

No bones?[edit]

Article says N/A for bones and other things. Does this mean that trolls leave no corpse or that it cannot be used after it rots?unsigned comment by Someone-else

It means that you can't butcher the corpse to get shit from it. It's size 9, though, so I assume it leaves nine bones. --GreyMario 20:26, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
Hypothetically, you could butcher them if you slaughtered them as livestock, but they're not pets or pet_exotics so you can't tame them in order to do so. --JT 20:39, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

So, why can't we add a parameter to the template to make it say "rotting leaves", so we can actually give information to the people reading the articles? Anydwarf 21:47, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

Yes, this would be a good thing. While the article doesn't state "Their bones are valuable, but you can't get them" usage of the word "although" suggests that. --Someone-else 07:34, 22 April 2008 (EDT)
OK, I edited the template. I still don't know about the bones, somebody who does will need to add that. Anydwarf 14:49, 22 April 2008 (EDT)
Rhesus macaques are size 3 and leave three bones. Therefore, trolls are size 9 and thus leave nine bones. --GreyMario 17:13, 22 April 2008 (EDT)

Only in evil?[edit]

Do Trolls only show up in evil biomes? I have had multiple seiges of 50+ goblins but nary a troll/beak dog/etc. Just simple goblins. It is fun to watch the traps get sprung!--Kwieland 16:19, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

No they do not. I had a siege of 30 goblins and 8 trolls in an untamed wilderness biome.--Cerol The Elf Hunter 20:26, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Since a month ago, I done some reading on the forum about modding. It seems that the goblins have to have access to them somewhere. For instance, in the Orc mod, Orcs will come riding war elephants, but only if War elephants exist somewhere where the orcs can tame them. So, it seems I haven't gotten lucky yet to have Trolls show up.--Kwieland 23:59, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Hard?[edit]

I had just started a new game and saw there was a chasm on the map with a few skeletal ratmen, naked mole dogs and one skeletal troll. Once again, i had just started out, so my only means of fighting these monsters was with recruits (wrestlers) and they seemed to kill that troll pretty fast. I only have a couple deaths but now the troll is dead. Am i super lucky or are trolls less tough then they are supposed to be?

There's always a good bit of chance in fighting any enemy. I've had Dwarves die to a random horse that wandered into my fortress, actually, I think I lost 3 dwarves that way, even after recruiting my entire fortress to attack it. This was in a fortress of a good 40 people, and I even had a strong military who lost 2 of their dwarves at first before I sent more to attack. In adventurer mode I've been killed on the first hit of a Troll several times, and I've also had a few battles with them where we stood there doing nothing for 15 minutes until one of us finally got a lucky hit in. But, I've also had a good number of fights where with my adventurer alone and a hefty hammer I've killed them straight up. Never tried fighting them in fortress mode, but I assume no major difference, except your losses will be more likely. You lost some dwarves, right? If so, that shows they're still strong. Now imagine it this way, you have a military of 1 recruit in your fortress and your other 6 dwarves are out working, suddenly your fisherdwarf is maimed by a Troll without notice, you quickly send your recruit to do battle with this Troll, but in your haste forgot to call back your woodcutter who is ripped to shreds by the mighty Troll. Your recruit gets there, and having been training for the past few seasons feels he is ready for anything. He pulls out his hammer and charges with fury at this vile Troll. A slow, but bloody, battle ensues and the Troll emerges the victor, but has suffered grave wounds and bleeds to death on his way to your fortress. Was that an easy battle? Yes and no. Could the recruit have killed the Troll had the other two dwarves not fought it? Maybe, maybe not, it's all random. But in the end, you still lost 2, maybe 3, dwarves to a Troll. Random.
