This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

Campfires can be created in adventurer mode by pressing g. Currently campfires do not require anything to build, although it has been indicated that in the future there will be more work involved in their creation. Try not to block your exit with a campfire; they do not seem to be passable or extinguishable, and will only disappear after a few hours. However, it is possible to jump over a campfire without being burnt by it.

Uses for a Campfire

  • Heating Objects.
  • Melting snow or ice in containers to water — Campfires do not seem to melt frozen water in landscape.
  • Creating Barriers.

In Fortress Mode

In previous versions, human and necromancer sieges will light campfires. This has been turned off for the time being in the 0.40 series, so at present, campfires are not found in Dwarf fortress mode.
