Highwoods are a type of above ground tree. They are found only in savage regions. Like the overwhelming majority of overland trees, highwood wood is brown and produces brown products. Highwoods are notable for their thick trunks, commonly measuring 2x2 or 3x3 tiles and extending upward (up to 12 z-levels) in a tangle of branches and wooden trunk. Highwoods yield much more wood than other trees, and will drop a scattered pile of logs when a single section of its base is cut down.

Ironically, Highwoods are more frequently found in savage deserts, due to the scarcity of tree species in deserts, so highwoods happen in pretty much every savage desert biome that has trees.

Also, highwood height depends of your worldgen's end year, though it tends to be a problem only for very short history worlds.
