My name is Zanef, and I have embarked upon hell itself. Somehow the wagon is intact and muskoxen are still alive: we have crossed a section of ocean and landed to found ...

Islandroom

Year 101, 1st Granite

As I stand upon our wagon and stare off into the distance, I can see that the ocean is nearly bottomless; 36 levels at its deepest. The king has demanded us to build a glass and steel fortress in the water; a living monument to dwarven ingenuity. If the surveyors hadn't promised a volcano, I would have never signed on. Charts be damned. If there is a volcano here it is extinct. Our only hope is to forge some picks and hope we can break though the aquifer to find the magma we need to construct our furnaces. Looks like we'll be living topside like the hippies for a while. Meanwhile, since the oxen collapsed upon reaching the shore, our wagon sits on the edge of the ocean itself. One strong wave and our supplies will be lost. Time to pull beards and take names.

Year 101, 3rd Granite

The waves are relentless beating on the wagon. We need our supplies moved. Now! Did I mention the Elephants and warthogs? I'll have Unib whip up some cages so Sigun can create some traps. With luck and breeding, we'll have a steady supply of meat! Perhaps this island isn't so bad.

Year 101, 4th Granite

I am putting the wagon before the ox, so to speak. Traps require mechanisms; and mechanisms require stone. Domas is busy, supposedly cracking our bit coal to make coke. May his beard wither, he's slower than a child removing a section of wall! I need picks like yesterday! Why did I let Zuntir convince me we could save dwarfbucks by making our own? I don't know where the elephants could possibly go, but if they all decide to drown themselves before we get traps I am going to forbid the booze and make them all drink water!

Year 101, 9th Granite

The wagon is finally deconstructed and all supplies have been accounted for. Where is the sand? How can we hope to make a glass fortress without sand?

Praise Armok! Using the coordinates from the surveyors charts, Urist began digging and soon found both the sand and the magma pipe!
