Hey there! You were talking about how you're working on a geology chart as well, eh? That's excellent! It means I'm not totally insane. It also means that more than one person here wants that sort of thing. It's funny you're saying mine's in better condition. I've just been going around the wiki, taking chunks of code, copying them into my page and editing their contents. It's literally just a streamlined version of the in-game geographic data the wiki already has! But it's a tedious pain in the ass. I only work on it once a week or so.

Although I love the direction you're going as well! A huge portion of DF is imagination, eh? Well so many stones are just a coloured tile on the screen. Most people go to wikipedia or google to find out what these materials REALLY look like. The connections between DF and reality would be a nice one to explore in the overall pages about the minerals, I think. Then people don't have to jump all over the internet to find their information, and we wouldn't have to worry about Wikipedia putting in disambiguation pages and such.

Welcome to this wiki! Dwarf Fortress rapidly becomes more complicated, and we're always glad to have new writers.
Since you should try to follow wiki standards, and you probably don't know ours yet, we've made a list of basic guidelines. Note that this is a template, not a customized message for you.

  • To tell us who you are when you talk, please sign your posts on discussion pages by typing --~~~~ after your posts. This can also be inserted with the Button sig756222.png button if JavaScript is enabled.
  • Don't put a question mark in the title of a page. Question marks mess things up, and your page will be moved to a different name.
  • When making comments on a talk page, use one more colon before each line in your comment than was used in the comment you reply to. In general, put exactly one empty line between comments by different users but do not use blank lines inside of a comment.
  • Avoid making many small edits to a page. Instead, try to make one large edit. This makes the history of the page a lot easier to read.
  • Don't edit the user page of another user. If you want to tell them something, add the comment to their talk page.
  • If you put a comment at the bottom of a talk page with section headers, you've probably put it in a section. Putting things in the wrong sections is confusing. You can create a section!
  • Generally, read and follow the rules. They're like a little constitution, except not boring! Really, read them.

Hi Nemokara,

I was idly reading user pages and I had some reactions to your notes if you're interested (and if you haven't already figured these out yourself :).

  • I usually rely on Bone carving rather than Woodcrafting for practice bolts, since wood is needed for beds, ash/potash, charcoal, bins, and barrels, while bones are otherwise useless.
  • When you're planning growth, always think of the Z-axis! If you grow downward, each new tile you carve is closer to the rest of your fort than it would be if everything was sprawled on one level.
  • For fuel, I like to tell the caravans to bring bituminous coal and charcoal, to further conserve my trees.
  • What difficulties have you had with custom stockpiles? I've fiddled with these pretty extensively, so maybe I could help.
  • For non-building artifacts, I don't think I've ever seen a dwarf admire them, but then again it's hard to know when to look.

Best of luck,
