Anyway, I added parents to the Types section, and also grandparents because I hadn't noticed the Royalty section. I'd add Aunts/Uncles but I'm not sure where they fall in on the list, and baby Sarvesh doesn't have any cousins yet. --Lielac (talk) 02:41, 24 January 2014 (UTC) (Transferred from DF:Page request/List)

: I re-wrote the paragraph to "Other Familial Relationships". They're all listed as family and thus above lovers, deities and friends, but dwarfs don't get happiness from talking with them and don't suffer especially if such a relation dies. And they aren't very prominent outside of very long-lived forts, so i'd prefer to give them short thrift.

Revision as of 15:36, 1 March 2014

The royalty section is inaccurate. I have a second-generation native-born dwarf in one of my fortresses who has a plentitude of aunts and uncles and listed maternal and paternal grandparents. I'm not sure why having those relationships is only noticed for royalty, but I think it's partially because shorter worlds mean smaller lineages and partially because most forts don't last long enough to see native-born children grow up, get married, and have children of their own. I really don't think there's any reason why extended family would be limited to royalty in any case.

I re-wrote the paragraph to "Other Familial Relationships". They're all listed as family and thus above lovers, deities and friends, but dwarfs don't get happiness from talking with them and don't suffer especially if such a relation dies. And they aren't very prominent outside of very long-lived forts, so i'd prefer to give them short thrift.
But you're quite right, the notion that these relationships are exclusive to royalty is demonstrably wrong. Ordinary migrants can arrive with cousins and uncles listed, and the game keeps track of the sprawling family trees when fort-born children start marrying and having kids. --Larix (talk) 15:36, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
