Plump helmets are mushrooms that can be grown by dwarves for Template:L, and are perhaps the most widely popular of the six underground Template:Ls. They are edible raw, but can also be Template:L in a Template:L or Template:L into Template:L, placing them among the most versatile of Template:Ls. Because they are also very fast-growing (taking only 25 days to mature) and can grow the whole year 'round*, they are the staple Template:L crop of many fortresses, which enjoy multiple harvests per season.
- (* While farming is not possible during the winter, plump helmet shrubs will still grow during all seasons.)
Keep in mind that cooking plants destroys their seeds, or in this case their spawn*. Both eating a plant raw and brewing it will leave seed/spawn behind, which can then be transferred to a seed Template:L, planted and used to grow more. Template:L this crop is advisable to newer players because of the speed of growth and the easily edible result, as opposed to other crops that require Template:L and/or Template:Ling to be edible.
- (* Technically, mushrooms do not have "seeds", but they work just the same in-game.)
