This article is about an older version of DF.

The furnace operator skill is used for the furnace tasks, such as melting metal ores into bars, melting metal items and creating metal alloys. It is also used at the Kiln for creating pearlash and plaster powder. Having a higher skill levels does not improve the output in any way. It only allows the task to be performed faster.

Note that a separate labor, wood burning, is used to make fuel from wood.
