Dwarves who have been living underground for several years will often become nauseated when exposed to the sun, meaning that long-standing fortresses will sometimes have little pools of vomit near outdoor refuse piles, stockpiles, and any other structures that dwarves only need to visit occasionally. Note that this illness can even befall dwarves who "enjoy working outdoors."

This article is about an older version of DF.
Both vomit and useless crap are common markers of a dwarf trail on the surface.

Under certain conditions, creatures (such as your dwarves) will vomit. This may occur from an injury to an organ (usually the stomach, pancreas, and such), or from cave adaptation. Vomit does not seem to create an unhappy thought ("nauseated by the sun" is from cave adaptation).

A puddle of vomit is represented by the same character as water (a double tilde: ≈) but is green rather than blue. Another object on top of a puddle of vomit will appear normally but on a green background. If vomit and blood puddles exist on the same tile, its color will be brown. Walking through vomit will not affect a dwarf's mood.

Vomit will disappear at the beginning of each season.

It can also be used as a weapon in adventurer mode, much to the dismay of your enemies.
