Dwarves whose personality traits differ significantly can form grudges, gaining unhappy thoughts when they speak to one another. This will happen more likely if you only have one meeting spot or many jobless dwarves.
Grudges are not necessarily mutual.
When the object of a grudge dies, it causes a thought in the mind of the grudge holder; this might be a positive one.
