If you're looking for a easy spot to start playing DF in, here's my advice:
| Magma | Avoid | Adds temptation to flood your fort with lava |
| Aquifer | Avoid | Usually above the rock you need to get at, and is hard to penetrate |
| Biome | Temperate | Get Something mild, not hot or cold. Avoid savannah to avoid elephants. |
| Wood | Recommended | Heavily Forested |
| Plants | Recommended | Plants are food, so pick a spot with some or lots |
| Flux | Recommended | having a flux layer is a good idea |
| Metal | Cross your fingers | there's lots of iron and other ores... especially if you get a flux layer |
| River | Avoid | Carp. |
| Brook | Recommended | Water. |
