This article is about an older version of DF. |
Obsidian is one of the types of Template:L that forms entire Template:Ls. Obsidian is also found surrounding magma pools and volcanoes, exactly 1 tile thick.
"Obsidian" is the also name of the twelfth month of the dwarven Template:L, covering late Winter.
Obsidian Formation
Obsidian can be formed by mixing Template:L and Template:L. This results in any tiles containing both Template:L and Template:L to be replaced with obsidian, and produces a large amount of Template:L. Any objects that were in the Template:L or Template:L prior to the formation of obsidian are completely destroyed, which can be an effective method of removing unwanted items or enemies.
Bugs
- Obsidian is not currently listed as an economic stone (z > stone). You cannot switch between "use" and "not use", so you can only use obsidian for constructions if you embark in a biome with an obsidian layer. See the discussion page for a workaround. v0.31.03
- The raws for obsidian have two melting points, one of which (13600) is magma safe and one of which (11818) is not. This leads to inconsistent melting behavior for things made out of obsidian. v0.31.03
