Dwarves are lovable, creative, yet sometimes incredibly stupid, creatures.
In Dwarf Fortress, the primary advantage humans have over Dwarves in combat is their increased height, which allows them to wield larger weapons than Dwarves, and wield weapons normally two-handed for Dwarves single-handedly.
In mythology, Dwarves are much like humans, but generally prefer to live underground and/or in mountainous areas. In their Fortresses is where they have accumulated treasures of gold, silver, and precious stones, and pass their time in fabricating costly weapons and armor. They are famed miners and smiths although, like humans, they specialise in any number of trades. Generally shorter than humans, they are on average stockier and hairier, usually sporting full beards. Though slow runners and poor riders, dwarves are said to be excellent warriors and defenders of their strongholds. Dwarves have the ability to forge magical items, which shows off their culture's and species natural craftmanship. For instance, dwarvish smiths created some of the greatest and most powerful items of power, which can be seen in-game when craftsdwarf go into strange moods and create artifiacts.
And here is a favorite among Dwarves to craft; there are many BattleAxe artifacts to be found in the game.
