This article is about an older version of DF. |
Aluminum ties for the second-highest-valued metal in the game with platinum, after adamantine. It also is the second lightest metal, after adamantine. The only in-game source of aluminum is native aluminum, which is just as valuable as the refined metal.
Aluminum can be used as decoration, or to create furniture and other objects. Aluminum cannot be forged into weapons or armor.
In Real Life
Aluminum is a fairly common metal, but is almost never found as pure deposits. Before the Hall–Héroult process for extracting it from bauxite was discovered, it was one of the rarest and most valuable metals in the world. Napoleon supposedly gave a banquet where his favored guests were given aluminum utensils, while the others had to make do with ordinary gold.
