This article is about an older version of DF.

Smoothing natural walls and floors increases the Template:L of Template:Ls. It is done by Template:L with the Template:L Template:L, and it trains the Template:L Template:L. Smoothed floors appear as a + rather than ./,/`/', and smoothed walls join neatly with corners, T-junctions and straight bits. A single tile of smoothed rock wall will appear as a pillar.

Only smoothed surfaces can be Template:Ld to increase the room's Template:L further, and only smoothed walls can be carved into Template:Ls.

Smoothing an area

  1. Press d to open the designate menu.
  2. Press s to select "Detail Stone".
  3. Move the cursor to a position on or near a wall or floor and press enter.
  4. The spot you marked changes to a blinking green "+" indicating where the area you wish to smooth extends from.
  5. Move the cursor to any position, across the area you wish to smooth and then press enter again.
  6. The wall and floor tiles in the area you defined will blink with a white regular pattern.
  7. Wait for a Template:L with the Template:L skill to smooth the Template:L on the walls and floors.

NOTE: Smoothing and Template:L use the same designation - thus, if you want an area to be smoothed but not engraved, you must take care when placing your designations.

Note

  • You cannot smooth dirt or mud, nor can you smoth metal Template:L or Template:Ls.
  • Smoothing a muddy floor will not remove the Template:L; however, a dwarf with the Cleaning labor will come by and remove the mud while the Smoothing designation is still present.
  • If a smoothed floor is muddied, it will remain smooth. Even when muddy, smooth floors will not allow Template:Ls or Template:Ls grow on them.
  • Smoothing a stone floor outside allows Template:Ls to pass over that tile.
  • If a Template:L begins digging a tile of stone but does not finish, it cannot later be smoothed.
